Liverpool target David Alaba confirms negotiations remain ongoing

Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has been expected to leave the Bavarian club this summer for some time and has today confirmed his departure, as relayed by German outlet Bild.

Wanted by Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City, the 28-year-old was recently rumoured to have sealed a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid.

However, during his premature farewell interview, the Austrian revealed that his agent remains in negotiations with clubs over his next move – perhaps affording renewed optimism for the Reds.

Alaba, who has an enviable medal collection including recently becoming a world champion with Bayern, proclaimed his desire for a ‘new challenge’ as he brings an end to a 13-year affinity with the Munich giants.

Capped 76 times by his nation, the versatile defender also insisted that his decision hasn’t been based on money and he had ‘personally decided to see something new’.

Make no bones about it, whoever lands Alaba for free is pulling off one of the shrewdest deals of recent times. Valued at £49.5m by Transfermarkt, he remains a high-class performer at an elite footballing level and thay should easily be the case for another four or five seasons at least.

As long as negotiations rumble on, Liverpool will desperately hope to convince the Austrian to commit his future to Anfield, having reportedly had him on their radar for several months now.

A signing of this magnitude would set minds at ease over the Reds’ capabilities to challenge for the Premier League once again next season.
