Roy Keane slams “shocking” aspect of Marcus Rashford display in Man Utd loss to Arsenal

Roy Keane singled out Marcus Rashford for criticism as he blasted Manchester United for their “really, really poor” performance in the defeat to Arsenal.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s second-haf penalty sunk the Red Devils to a 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford.

The hosts were disjointed in attack and dominated in midfield by the Gunners’ £45million summer signing Thomas Partey.

The result leaves United languishing in the bottom half of the table with just two wins to their name after their opening six league games this season.

“I looked at Rashford closely today,” Keane told Sky Sports. “He’s had loads of plaudits over the last few months and I know he’s a young man.

“His body language was shocking. Shrugging his shoulders when things didn’t go his way? You roll your sleeves up when you play for Manchester United.

“When things aren’t going your way, that’s when you look at your leaders. I don’t see any leaders out there. Right through the whole team, from the experienced players.”

United ran out emphatic winners in their 5-0 thrashing of RB Leipzig in midweek, with Rashford netting a quick-fire hat-trick.

But Keane insisted there was a distinct lack of desire on show against Arsenal, adding: “We spoke before the game about being on the front foot.

“You want to be aggressive, you’re the home team. Their home form has been poor, obviously.

“There was none of those things. A lack of energy, of enthusiasm, and a real lack of quality. That really concerned me in the second half.a man with a football ball on a field: Keane claimed there was a © POOL/AFP via Getty Images Keane claimed there was a

“When they were getting in half decent positions they were obviously chasing the match, but there was no quality, no composure.

“Some of the performances were really, really poor. Ole will be scratching his head. We keep speaking about after the Spurs game (6-1 defeat), have they turned a corner? It’s the longest corner ever. I am just not convinced by these players.

“We all talk about characters at Manchester United. I don’t see enough of them today.”

The former United captain also sent an ominous warning to the club as he declared they are a “long, long way” off competing for the league title.

“I am really, really worried about Manchester United now,” Keane said. “I think the last year, year and a half, you give them the benefit of the doubt. Recruitment, blah, blah, blah. What’s happening upstairs, there’s problems.

“But what I saw today, Crystal Palace, Brighton, Spurs, even Chelsea, real lack of quality at Manchester United and a long, long way back for this club.”
