Timo Werner makes Chelsea Champions League prediction with “good chance” declaration

Timo Werner has claimed Chelsea are good enough to win the Champions League – and believes they can even cause an upset this season.

Chelsea forward Werner has hit the ground running with five goals already and says the whole squad are not putting any limits on how far they can go this season.

Germany forward Werner, 24, insisted he joined Chelsea to win major honours and firmly believes they can win the European Cup especially in an unpredictable season with crazy results.

Werner said: “Every team now that plays in Europe plays every three days.

“Every team – not only us – that plays Wednesday-Saturday-Wednesday-Saturday its difficult.

“But we have a big squad of good players. We have so many players and so many good players and I think with this we have to have the goal to come very far in this competition.

“We are not here to say ‘we will get in the next round and we will see’ we are here to win the Champions League in the next years.

“This year is a good chance because everybody in the competition has a lot of games and every team has to think about how they can manage it, who they can play, how many games can they play consecutively.

“For me I think we have a good chance this year but also in the next years. Like I said when I arrived I came here to win titles.

“We are in a good way, we are learning from each other.

“We have a good chance to come very far in this competition.”

Werner also believes his fellow Germany forward and Chelsea team mate Kai Havertz is world class and will only get better after his summer move to Stamford Bridge.

Havertz moved to Chelsea in the summer and has not quite had the same immediate explosive impact as Werner but the versatile forward has already shown glimpses.

Werner added: “I think he’s one of the most talented players in the whole world.

“He’s a young boy, who’s 21 who can learn a lot but already play like a very, very old [wise]player. We talk a lot about settling in and he feels he’s very happy to be here.

“I think also in a lot of games he showed what his strengths are, what he can bring into the team.

“For Kai it is very important to score but I think you can see in his game he’s much more than scoring goals as a midfield player.

“He plays a lot of key passes, he plays a lot of movements he make for other players. He’s very talented and so good until now and I think he will get better and better every game.

“The same as me he came in a new country, a new language, a new style of football and you have to learn as well, but I think until now he played very very good and we will see a lot of more good games from him.”
